Random Thoughts

And so we believe what we believe. and think what we think. and do what we do. and then we ask ourselves - what were we thinking??

The Christmas Cliché

I opened up the newspaper
On a bright Christmas morn
The news was not what angels sang
Of glad tidings and sweet song

Silent night, Holy night; let’s sing this Christmas day
We’ll go to church and celebrate another Christmas cliché

Innocent people had died
Politics had been played
Disaster had struck the earth
There is a God, you said?

Hark now hear the angels sing, a King was born today
The star, the sweets, the Christmas tree, all part of this cliché

We’re waiting for the world to change
Where’s the Saviour who will lead
We’re tired of the way things are
Will someone please pay heed?

A ray of hope flickers in the night, a tiny star lights up way up high
All across the land dawns a bright new morn
This comes to pass when a child is born

Christmas isn’t a promise to change the world; it’s a promise to change you. It isn’t the answer to the problems of today; it’s the hope for a better tomorrow.
Christmas isn’t Christmas till it happens in your heart.

May the peace and warmth of Christmas touch your life.

Nice ...

You want the world to change? Then people have to start treating every day like it was Christmas.

People must realize that one does not have to wait till Christmas to do a good deed or to be charitable. Have you noticed how most of us go to church or pray or do something charitable only around Christmas time or on some special occasion. If we can do better than that, then I believe the world would've become a better place already.

For the world to change, our outlook has to change. I believe that our attitude, values and priorities are not what it was in the previous generations and I believe this change is what has caused the world to change so much. We find it easier to blame it on the internet, the movies of today, technology etc, while in fact it is the values that are handed down from generation to generation. We find parents blaming schools and teachers for doing something which as parents were their job in the first place - disciplining the children. Most of the children of today do not know the true meaning of respect, be it respect for elders, teachers, books, neighbors or a stranger on the road. Children of today are the men and women of tomorrow and if they grow up like this, how can we expect future generations to be any better.

What we learn from our parents, we try to live it and even pass it on to the next generation. But if any one has noticed, this game of 'handing down' is like a game of Chinese whispers. We modify it to suit our life, forgetting why they would have handed them down to us in the first place. Our children and grand children will do the same. We notice priorities changing towards materialistic things. The arrogance created by having too much money to spare has spread to every strand of our every day life.

For the world to change, the first thing that has to change is us. How much and what all are we willing to do? Our values, our priorities, our way of looking at life. We have to chose.

"Christmas is not about changing the world" ... I agree. The point is .. people are always trying to change the world only around christmas time :) how come the same thoughts of charity and good will is lacking the rest of the year?? Do we really need a special day to be good?
